Rental terms
Plain-language terms that apply to every rental.
Who can drive
Drivers must be 23 or older and have held a valid driving licence for at least 2 years. Only the named driver(s) on the booking may drive. Foreign licences are accepted with a passport.
Documents
We verify your ID or passport and driving licence before your first self-drive trip. Unverified bookings cannot be handed over.
Payment
Prices include VAT at 16%. Bookings are confirmed once at least 30% is paid; the balance is due before pickup.
Deposit
Self-drive rentals carry a refundable security deposit shown on each car. It is returned within 48 hours of return, less any charges below.
Fuel
Cars go out with a full tank and should come back full. Missing fuel is charged at KES 1,200 per eighth of a tank.
Mileage
Each car includes a daily kilometre allowance, added up over the trip. Extra kilometres are charged at the rate shown on the car.
Late returns
We allow 59 minutes of grace. After that, KES 500 per hour is charged; from 4 hours late a full extra day applies. Extend from your trip page to avoid this.
Damage & protection
Every rental includes comprehensive insurance. If the car is damaged you pay up to the excess of the protection plan you chose. Damage caused by driving under the influence, off-road use not suited to the vehicle, or unauthorised drivers is not covered.
Where you can drive
Anywhere in Kenya. Cross-border travel into Uganda and Tanzania requires the cross-border permit extra, booked in advance.
Cancellation
Free cancellation up to 48 hours before pickup. Within 48 hours, 30% of the booking is retained. No-shows are charged in full.
Breakdowns
Use the Roadside help button on your trip page or call +254 729 222 520. Do not arrange repairs without our approval.
Traffic offences
Fines and penalties incurred during the rental are the renter's responsibility.
